Good things for parents to know
Dress for success! Dress your child appropriate for weather, layers work the best. Be sure your child has eye protection (goggles for snowy days and sunglasses for sunny days). Retail items are available at each base area.
Make reservations. It's the best way to ensure a spot for your child, especially on weekends. It streamlines the registration process when you arrive. Reservations are honored until 9am for morning and all day lessons and 12pm for afternoon lessons. If you do not arrive by these times your spot is relinquished to walk in participants.
Fuel your little one. Be sure your child had a good night's rest and breakfast prior to your visit. It's important to have energy for their day.
Which runs? Your child will be placed in a group according to their age and ability level. Although you will make a preliminary assessment, final placement is with consideration of the safety of your child and other class members. Refer to your child's progress card for the scoop on their ability level. This will make it easier to place them the next time you visit us.
Be sure to arrive early. You want to be sure to have enough time to get your child registered and settled in. This will alleviate some of the potential stresses (weather, traffic, etc.) involved in getting to the mountain and make for a more pleasant experience for your child.
Parking - The Summit is all about convenience. Your family should get their exercise on the mountain rather than trekking in from the parking lot. We have a drop off zone located behind the children's center at Summit West streamlining the arrival and departure process for busy families.
Go play! We know you're worried about your little one...but it's easiest on the child and instructor if you are not within eye or ear shot of your child during their lesson. It's great to watch from a far, but it can often be distracting to have mom or dad too close or involved in the lesson. This is a great chance for you to go have some fun on the slopes for yourself. Relish the opportunity while you can.
We highly recommend parents DO NOT LEAVE The Summit while their children are in lessons.
Speaking of fun...that's what this is all about. Be sure to consider your expectations. Your child may not be the next Olympic medalist by the end of their first lesson, but if they walk of the mountain with a smile on their face we'd call that a success. After all, skiing and snowboarding is really all about escaping to the mountains to have some good old fun!
