We plan to make quite a few improvements this summer at The Summit at Snoqualmie. From new Magic Carpets to additional terrain, we have a lot planned to help make next winter even better than the last! Read on to get the scoop.

Power at Summit East

This summer we're sending power to the top of Summit East! Did you ride Rampart Chair or Hidden Valley this winter? If so, you likely noticed the somewhat loud generators at the top. Those generators were providing the primary power source for the two chairs. However, that's all about to change! Once we have power lines installed, the generator systems will be used as backup only. Making the mountain much more pleasant for skiers, snowboarders, and winter wildlife! Plus we'll be capable of running these two chairs when the power is out.

Power at the top of Summit East will also be essential for future projects at the area.

Following the prolonged power outage we experienced last December, we also plan to install several additional generators to increase our ability to operate more facilities/areas during power outages. We will have more specific info about new generators and their locations later this summer.

Additional Terrain - Mountaineers

Yep! We recently purchased the plot of land between Summit West and Summit Central. We're stoked about the deal as it's a major step in improving connectivity between West and Central. Read all about it here.

New Magic Carpet at Tubing Center

This summer we're installing a brand new magic carpet to replace the two handle tows currently at the Tubing Center. The new carpet will be easier to use and provide an increase in uphill capacity when compared to the two existing handle tows. The new surface lift will be roughly the same length as the existing handle tows, but will be able to haul nearly three times the number of guests to the top of the hill per hour. That translates to less time in line, less walking for tubers, and more fun on the snow!

New Magic Carpet at Summit West

Summit West is The Place to Learn! So to help first time skiers and snowboarders get their snow legs even faster we're adding another surface lift at Summit West. The new 200 foot long carpet will be installed conveniently just off the plaza in front of Stan's Cafe. The terrain in this area is ideal for beginners and is very close to our Welcome Center and rental shop.

New Groomers

To support an ongoing initiative to improve the quality and quantity of groomed runs at The Summit, we've ordered some shiny new grooming machines for winter 2016-17! Our grooming team is getting two new PistenBully 600 cats to help push snow and set the corduroy. The new PB 600 groomers should arrive in December and are in addition to a new PistenBully 400 Winch that has already been delivered.

By this winter The Summit will have eight modern Pisten Bully groomers and a total fleet of 19 alpine groomers.

Summer Slope Maintenance & Brush Cutting

Brush cutting and slope maintenance has been high on our list of summer priorities for quite a few years now. Short of building out a multi-million dollar top-to-bottom snow making system, summer slope maintenance and brush cutting make the biggest difference in getting the mountain open as early as possible. We'll be hitting it hard again this summer utilizing a ground crew with hand tools and our custom made mulching groomer - the Slope Goat.
