2018 Alpental Freeride Open Results
The Results Are In!
We hope all the competitors enjoyed the final freeride competition in the Pacific Northwest. We couldn't have asked for much better conditions, with great visibility and plenty of fresh snow this was easily one of the best freeride competitions held at Alpental. The Alpental Freeride Open has been running for four years now and we are stoked to see so many competitors come back each season.
Much the same as previous seasons, this year's venue was directly under our very own chairway to heaven - Edelweiss Chair, aka "Chair 2". However, this year we decided to shorten up the venue for competitors under the age of twelve, and opened up additional terrain for those over the age of twelve. The addition of the Kante zone was a welcomed option, providing more opportunity for skiers and boarders to impress the judges as well as increased line choice and variety.
Nearly one hundred athletes came to throw down this year, competitors ranged from just 8 years old all the way up to 18. Thanks for coming! Hit the link below to view the results (pdf).
We've uploaded some photos to a dropbox folder for parents and athletes to use and share as well as the Flickr album below. View photos here.
Tom Allan has also been kind enough to share is gallery with athletes and parents. View his photos here. Please be courteous and credit photographers like Tom when sharing.
To all of our the judges; Steve Griffith, Scott Sumner, JD Thompson, Dawson Allen, Mark Erickson and Brian Leahy. Thanks to our volunteers and score runners, the Alpental SnowSports School staff, Summit Group Sales department staff, the Alpental lodge staff for opening early and providing breakfast, Alpental Patrol for all the help with setup, Jack from grooming for delivering the sound system, Dane from the shop for cutting the rad awards, Eric for making the awards backdrop, and our lift operations & maintenance team. Without all these team players, this event would never happen.
