Renewable Energy

The Summit supports the Bonneville Environmental Foundation’s SkiGreen Program.

SkiGreen is a partnership between the non-profit Bonneville Environmental Foundation and leaders in the snow sports industry to build support for non-polluting renewable sources of energy through the sale of renewable energy credits (green tags).

Mini-Green Tags were developed as a solution for those who enjoy outdoor winter sports activities and wish to reduce the associated impacts to the environment such as the greenhouse gas emissions caused by driving a car to the mountain. Each Mini-Green Tag represents 100 kilowatt-hours of wind power entering the energy grid and creates a savings of 140 pounds of air emissions – roughly the same amount caused by driving 150 miles in a vehicle getting approximately 21 MPG.

We offer Mini-Green Tags to our guests for $2 a piece at ticket windows with daily lift tickets. For our season pass holders who want to mitigate their multiple trips to the mountain at one time, we encourage them to spend $20 on ten Mini-Green Tags. A guest may be a die-hard racking in 100+ days a season on our lifts or just in a charitable mood where they want to spend more on this program. We support that! The proceeds from Mini-Green Tags sales are used towards supporting renewable energy through BEF, on behalf of the ski area guest who has purchased the Mini-Green Tag.

Why Mini Green-Tags through Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF)?

Bonneville Environmental Foundation Mini-Green Tag sales support renewable energy produced and delivered into the grid today from new renewable energy facilities (such as wind and solar). Beyond supporting today’s renewable energy, Green Tags also support the development of new renewable energy projects and watershed restoration through BEF’s reinvestment programs.

BEF is a charitable and non-profit public benefit corporation dedicated to encouraging and funding activities and projects that lead to greater reliance on clean, environmentally preferred renewable power, and to healthy sustainable fish and wildlife habitat.

Through its grant making to community-based restoration initiatives, BEF’s Watershed Program invests net revenues derived from the sale of renewable energy products into project designed to protect and restore watershed ecosystems of the Pacific NW. Mini-Green Tags support BEF’s renewable project management program, developing everything from small agricultural-scale wind, to solar schools, to large-scale wind farms.

The Summit also partners with Climate Solutions in efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions within our region.
