Nordic Frequently Asked Questions
SNOPARK/SLEDDING/PETS
Do you sell SnoPark passes?
No, we do not sell SnoPark passes.
Where can I get a SnoPark Pass?
At the Ranger Stations in North Bend or Cle Elum. At the Forest Service Information Center at Summit West (call first to make sure they are available). You can also get them at many sporting goods stores. (Be aware — government offices are closed on federal holidays. On weekends and some holidays there is a state park ranger at the John Wayne Trail who will sell you a SnoPark pass.
Where can I go sledding on Snoqualmie Pass?
Our tubing center has lift-served tubing and rentals (click here for the Tubing page). While The Summit does not allow sledding, several local sno-parks do. Click here for more information.
What’s your policy for pets?
We love them, but they are not allowed on the trail system or in the area around the lodge. If you want to ski or snowshoe with your dog there is the nearby Gold Creek SnoPark. Dogs on SnoPark trails must be on leash.
TRAILS/HUTS
Do you have any beginner trails?
Yes, we do — we have two kilometers of beginner trails around the lodge. But the best bet for beginners is to climb up to the Cold Creek Trail. The Nesting Bird Yurt is located 4.2 kilometers out and is a good turn around point for a tired skier. The trail continues out to 5.6 kilometers. Here the trail starts to climb and beginner terrain is left behind. The trail continues around Mt. Catherine. If you have a SnoPark permit you can also access the John Wayne Trail, railroad grade flat for over 20 kilometers.
What’s a yurt?
A yurt is a round structure, similar to a teepee.
Where is the yurt?
The Nesting Bird Yurt is 4.2 Kilometers out on the Cold Creek Trail. It is usually in place between late December and late March.
Are there any other warming huts?
The Jim Brooks warming hut is located just over Windy Pass (on the west side). It is usually in place between late December and late March. There is also an old ski patrol hut at Grand Junction that has room for a few skiers at a time.
LIFTS
How many times can I ride the chair up?
Nordic tickets are valid for two trips up Silver Fir or East Peak….downloading is only permitted on Silver Fir between 3:30PM and 4PM, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Snowshoers are not permitted on any lifts.
LESSONS
What time are lessons offered?
Drop-in lessons are offered at 10:30 AM and 1:00 PM. Multi-week package lessons go out at various times. Check the schedules on our lesson page for exact information.
Why can’t I sign up for a private lesson at any time I want?
Though we have about 50 instructors that teach at the center, there are generally only between six to ten on the schedule on Saturdays and Sundays (fewer on weekdays) that are available for drop-in and private lessons. Trying to schedule a private lesson at times other than 10:30 and 1:00pm is difficult-to-impossible without plenty of advance notice. If you cannot take a lesson at 10:30am or 1:00pm, please contact the Nordic Ski School Supervisor (425-434-6799) to inquire about arranging for a class outside the standard times at least 48 hours prior to your desired day.
What types of rentals do you offer?
Summit East has skate and track equipment. Take a look at our rates page for more information.
